Nia Georges


Nia Georges is Professor and Chair in Anthropology, Rice University (USA) and interested in medical anthropology, cultural study of reproduction and new reproduction technologies, medicalization of the life cycle, relationships among social class, ethnicity and disease. She has done extensive fieldwork in Greece and is the author of The Making of a Transnational Community: Migration, Development and Cultural Change in the Dominican Republic (Columbia, 1990) and Bodies of Knowledge. The Medicalization of Reproduction in Greece (Vanderbilt, 2008)
