Costas Canakis


Costas Canakis is Associate Professor in Sociolinguistics at the Department of Social Anthropology and History of the University of the Aegean. He studied English and Linguistics at the University of Athens and earned a PhD in Linguistics at the University of Chicago as a Fulbright scholar. He has taught at Princeton University and the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki. His research interests include sociolinguistics, pragmatics, and anthropological linguistics. He is the author of the monograph An Introduction to Pragmatics:  Cognitive and Social Aspects of Language Use (in Greek, 2007) as well as (co-)editor of two collected volumes on issues of language and sexuality (2010, 2011).
